After many storm tossed weeks on the ocean, they arrived in New York. From there they took passage on a small northbound Hudson river sloop and disembarked at the present Rhinebeck, where some of their countrymen had remained after the partial exodus to the promised land of Schoharie.
Guilderland was originally part of Rensselaerswyck, the patent originally granted to Kilian Van Rensselaer in 1614. The land grant was 24 miles long and wide on each side of the Hudson River with Albany (Fort Orange), as midpoint.
Recuperating from the long sea voyage, they soon discovered that little land was available. Again they set off with determination to reach the next large settlement of their countrymen along the Schoharie. On foot from the Hudson river, loaded down with their few belongings, the Krownskys plodeded their slow way day after day.
Finally their path lay along the foot of the Hellebergh, resplendent in its wooded heights, "bright and clear," as its Germanic name implies. Only 20 miles remained to the land of their dreams, to the homes and hearths of their countrymen, where they, too, might rest from their wanderings over land, sea and in time share in the fabulous rich earth of the "Schohary Valley." But here, beneath the mountain, mother Elizabeth sat down by the pathway to rest.
"I'm tired and wholly exhausted,: she said. "Not another foot can I go. Here we will make our home. This is the spot."
A lease of several hundred acres was secured from the Patroon of Rensselarswyck. At first a bark hut was erected. This served until son, Frederick took a wife, when a larger dwelling was erected on the west side of the road and close to thefoot of the mountain. And finally, the large white mansion now owned by Dr. Ruth Gilbert was built almont on the same spot in 1802.

But as we came to America death intervened and in the city of Philadelphia he lies buried. - [S327] A. B. Gregg, Old Hellebergh, Pg. 9 Continuing reports of prosperity beneath the "bright mountain" induced Philip at length to sail for America with his familyin this momentous year of 1767. During a severe voyage their idolized baby boy sickened and died at sea, and was buried upon their arrival at the city of Philadelphia. Then began the long journey to find the homestead of his father. Weeks passed as they slowly worked their way northward, ever inquiring if anyone knew Frederick Krownsky. To all he would show a Colonial coin sent to him by his father, thinking that in some way this might be a guide or talisman that might lead him to his relatives.
How he eventually located the old couple, whom he had not seen in 13 years, we do not know, but arrive he did late in 1767, and met wkth a joyous reception. A part of the eastern section of his father's farm was apportioned to him, and a small habitation erected.
